Trulieve Opens the Door: Which Cannabis Companies Could Be Next to Uplist?
Trulieve recently made history by becoming the first U.S. cannabis operator to uplist to the New York Stock Exchange following federal medical cannabis rescheduling and a corporate restructuring focused on medical operations. The move is widely viewed as a major milestone for the U.S. cannabis industry and could pave the way for additional multi-state operators (MSOs) to access major U.S. exchanges. According to MJBizDaily, investors are now focused on identifying which cannabis companies could follow Trulieve's lead. Several operators have already begun positioning themselves for potential uplisting opportunities through corporate restructuring, reverse stock splits, or increased compliance efforts. My view is that three companies stand out as the strongest candidates to be among the next wave of cannabis operators listed on major U.S. exchanges: 1. Glass House Brands Glass House has become one of the most efficient cannabis producers in California, with large-scale greenhouse cultivation and a focus on profitability. The company has consistently demonstrated an ability to scale operations while driving down production costs. It also became one of the first major U.S. cannabis operators to gain broader retail investor access through Robinhood, showing management's willingness to pursue opportunities that expand shareholder access. 2. Green Thumb Industries GTI remains one of the highest-quality operators in the sector, consistently generating strong cash flow and maintaining a disciplined balance sheet. As one of the most institutionally respected cannabis companies, GTI appears well-positioned to attract significant investor interest if exchange uplisting becomes available. 3. Verano Holdings Verano has built a substantial national footprint and remains one of the largest cannabis operators in the United States. With improving profitability and exposure to several attractive state markets, Verano could be a strong candidate for a future uplisting if regulatory conditions continue to improve. Potential Market Impact One lesson from Trulieve's NYSE debut is that exchange uplisting itself can become a powerful catalyst. Investors often anticipate increased institutional ownership, greater liquidity, expanded analyst coverage, and inclusion in additional investment platforms and portfolios. For that reason, I would expect any announcement from Glass House, GTI, or Verano regarding a major U.S. exchange listing to generate a meaningful market reaction. While nothing is guaranteed and long-term performance will still depend on fundamentals, the Trulieve example suggests that investors could see a significant short-term rally as new buyers gain access to these stocks and market participants price in the benefits of a major exchange listing. Why This Matters Major exchange listings can increase liquidity, improve institutional ownership, expand analyst coverage, and make cannabis stocks accessible to millions of investors who cannot currently purchase OTC-listed companies. Trulieve's successful NYSE debut may prove to be the first domino in a broader sector re-rating. While no additional uplistings are guaranteed, my expectation is that Glass House Brands, Green Thumb Industries, and Verano are among the most likely candidates to join major U.S. exchanges as the cannabis industry continues its transition into mainstream capital markets. If that happens, investors may not only benefit from the long-term fundamentals of these businesses but also from the short-term enthusiasm that often accompanies a major exchange uplisting.
